Job Summary

Job Responsibilities

The Citadel The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Trades Specialist to work in the Grounds Division. This role will report to the Grounds Division Chief and is responsible for the routine maintenance and enhancements of the landscape at the residence of the President of the college to also include general maintenance. This position is also responsible for event set-ups at the residence including indoor and outdoor events. Below are more details about the role/responsibility.

  • Routine upkeep of the grounds; including mowing edging weed eating blowing raking and leaf pick-up.
  • Tree work; i.e. tree pruning and trimming shrubbery.
  • Contracting and coordinating/overseeing tree removals large limb pruning and high pruning of limbs bulk mulch installations large sodding projects etc.
  • Fertilizations herbicidal applications and insect control applications.
  • Routine maintenance and repair of water fountains and irrigation systems; including sprinkler head installation water line repair clock installation and operation system wiring.
  • Prepares grounds for events and visits from dignitaries.
  • Set up for indoor and outdoor events; i.e. tables chairs plants fans heaters etc.
  • Routine household maintenance repairs and furniture moving as needed.
  • Maintain a budget and utilize the work order and purchase requisition system to track expenses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have three (3) years direct work experience in landscape installation maintenance or groundskeeping operations.
  • Must have two (2) years experience in related trade areas (carpentry plumbing electrical repair and painting) or general building maintenance.
  • Proficiency with landscape equipment manual tools understanding of plant and turf care pest management irrigation systems and tree care.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina drivers license.
  • Must possess and maintain Pesticide Applicator License.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.
