Job Title:TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT (TOSA) - DEAN OF STUDENTS -
UPPER ELEMENTARY BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
POSITION SUMMARY
The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) - Dean of Students will provide support to school administrators for the overall leadership of the school.The TOSA Dean of Students also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff parentsand students. The TOSA Dean of Students reports to the Principal or Designated Administrator and does not supervise any employees.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assistwith student supervision and enforcement of the student code of conduct
- Counselstudents and parents with school and district policy
- Assiststaff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations
- Assistin the planning developing and implementing of individual student behavior plans
- Assistwith student discipline and attendance including suspensions and pre-expulsion conferences
- Developand maintain positive interpersonal relationships
- Modelpersonal behaviors of honesty fairness courtesy and consideration
- Maintaina cooperative relationship with administration staff students and parents
- Communicatewith parents counselors and students
- Communicatewith classified licensed and administrative staff
- Instructand direct assigned instructional assistants to maximize delivery of instructional services
- Providedocumentation of student progress
- Providetimely and accurate feedback/documentation to students and parents
- Maintainappropriate records of student performance
- Assignand check homework and provide feedback when appropriate
- Keepparents and teachers informed through written and oral communication
- Maintainan ongoing personal program of professional growth and development
- Developand implement annually an approved plan for professional growth and development
- Identifyand request to attend professional workshop activities intended to increase the teachers instructional effectiveness
- Participatein District sponsored inservice offerings appropriate to assignment
- Performother related duties as assigned by the principal and/or superintendent
- Performduties in accordance with District policy and terms set forth in the negotiated agreement
- Assumea share of responsibility for non-classroom student activities with the assigned workday
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintainsconsistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
- Participatesin various meetings for the purpose of receiving information or sharing information and expertise with students colleagues and parents/guardians.
- Confersregularly with immediate supervisor
- Performsother duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Required
- A minimum of a Bachelors degree in an appropriate field of education
- Experience with student supervision and management
Skills
- Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students staff or district patrons
- Skillfully manages individual group and organizational interactions
Knowledge
- Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods state curriculum framework education code
- Knowledge of behavioral health and wellness best practices including PBIS Collaborative Problem Solving PAX restorative justice etc.
Abilities
- Demonstrates command of oral and written English language
- Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
- Ability to complete paperwork accurately; verify and correctly enters data
- Ability to avert problem situations and intervene to resolve conflicts
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with students parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English Spanish or other languages related to the job
- Ability to work harmoniously with others
Licenses Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required
- Holds an appropriate license from Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon and the required endorsement for the content area and grade level.
