Job Duties

The purpose of this position is to deliver a full range of high quality individualized acute psychiatric and psychosocial inpatient services that in collaboration with other providers improve the lives of Virginias children who require intensive care and support as well as their families. The position provides supervision and mentoring to DSAIIs guidance and mentoring to DSAIIIs and support to RNs to promote relationship based collaborative trauma informed care. It assists Nurses in building and maintaining teamwork across shifts and units and supports all Nursing staff in fostering dignity and respect in interactions with children families and colleagues.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to oversee staff in a multi shift environment and provide guidance to both full and part time direct care staff in their daily work including therapeutic interventions activities school support and responses to crises or challenging situations. Strong critical thinking and sound decision making skills in crisis situations are essential. The position also requires the ability to assist in resolving conflicts and to recognize and value the contributions of others. This role will float throughout the hospital assisting and teaching staff and patients by building on strengths and enhancing performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of Center policies procedures standards of conduct and agency regulations related to supervision of direct care staff of the characteristics of the assigned population of children and of all therapeutic programs delivered in the unit.

Demonstrated knowledge of child/adolescent development and needs of individuals with disabilities.

Demonstrated mastery of PNA skills and tasks in all areas including planning activities collecting behavioral data writing reports implementing and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment plans interacting/communicating successfully with children/adolescents with a variety of physical and mental disabilities participating in therapeutic activities and helping with activities of daily living and hygiene.

Willingness to play a lead role and ability to interact and intervene verbally and physically in crisis situations in order to properly mentor other staff.

Demonstrated ability to lead coach and act as a role model to other individual direct care staff as well as groups of diverse team members ability to provide constructive feedback and project optimism in difficult situations and ability to train/teach and assess competencies of new employees.

Must possess excellent communication and basic computer literacy skills in order to effectively communicate and collaborate with other staff.

Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

Additional Considerations

Post-secondary certificate or degree in related field preferred.
Extensive background in general areas of child/adolescent development psychology or related human services background in employee management/supervision and knowledge of building helping relationships-preferred
