Tool Room MachinistJob Description Summary
The Tool Room Machinist is responsible for setting up adjusting and operating manual and CNC machine tools to manufacture repair and modify tooling fixtures dies gauges and precision components. This position supports production by ensuring tooling accuracy quality and minimal downtime.Job Description:
- Set up and operate manual machines (lathe mill surface grinder drill press hole burner etc.)
- Set up CNC mills and/or lathes (prove out programs set offsets adjust tooling)
- Interpret blueprints GD&T and engineering drawings
- Manufacture and repair fixtures dies jigs and special tooling
- Hold tight tolerances (.0005 or as required)
- Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements
- Assist with tooling design modifications
- Maintain tool room organization and equipment
- Follow all safety procedures and company standards
Required Skills and Education
- 37 years experience in tool room or precision machining environment
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Experience with tight tolerance machining
- Proficient in manual machining (critical in tool room environment)
- CNC setup experience preferred
- Knowledge of tool steels heat treating and surface finishes
- Proficiency in using calipers micrometers and other inspection equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- GED or high school diploma required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with CAD/CAM software
- Experience in die and /or fixture building
- Journeyman machinist certification (if applicable)
