Location: Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School Bethlehem PA
Position Type: Full-Time 10-months paid over 12 months
Start Date: Fall 2026
Reports To: Middle School Principal

Position Overview

Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School (LVA) is seeking an energetic creative and highly collaborative Middle School Theatre Teacher to lead our International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) Theatre curriculum for students in Grades 68 beginning Fall 2026.

At LVA middle school theatre is about much more than developing performers. Theatre serves as a powerful tool for building confidence empathy communication collaboration and creative thinking skills. Because theatre is part of our required curriculum every student participates regardless of prior experience interest level or comfort on stage.

The ideal candidate understands how to make theatre accessible and meaningful for all learners. This educator can engage the reluctant performer create a safe and encouraging space for introverted students and channel the energy and enthusiasm that make middle school such a unique and rewarding age group.

In addition to classroom instruction this role serves as the lead director and coordinator for LVAs annual Middle School Musical and other student performance opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
Classroom Instruction & IB MYP Implementation (Grades 68)
  • Teach inclusive IB MYP Theatre units to students in Grades 68 designing lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles abilities interests and comfort levels
  • Foster a supportive low-risk classroom culture where students feel safe taking creative risks and developing confidence
  • Design inquiry-based units centered around MYP Key and Related Concepts such as Aesthetics Identity Communication and Change
  • Guide students through the artistic process of investigating developing creating/performing and evaluating theatre work
  • Support student reflection and creative growth through process journals performance work and ongoing feedback
  • Assess student learning using IB MYP assessment criteria
Directorial & Production Leadership
  • Direct stage and manage the annual Middle School Musical from auditions through final performances
  • Coordinate with musical directors choreographers technical support staff and volunteers to produce a high-quality age-appropriate production
  • Organize rehearsals and production schedules to maximize student participation and create positive student experiences
  • Support students in developing performance teamwork and leadership skills through production experiences
Collaboration & Community Engagement
  • Collaborate with the Middle School Arts Department and colleagues across disciplines to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities
  • Maintain effective communication with students parents faculty and administration regarding performances schedules and student progress
  • Promote the arts within the broader school community
After-School & Community Arts Participation
  • Participate in after-school rehearsals technical rehearsals dress rehearsals performances and other arts-related events
  • Support the broader arts program through active participation in school events and showcases
  • Balance classroom responsibilities with the dynamic and seasonal demands associated with productions and performances
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Theatre Theatre Education Drama Performing Arts Education or a related field with theater experience.
  • Pennsylvania teaching certification preferred
  • Experience teaching theatre or drama to middle school-aged students (ages 1114)
  • Demonstrated experience directing theatrical productions preferably involving middle school or adolescent performers
  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme preferred; willingness to complete MYP training required
  • Strong classroom management skills with an understanding of middle school developmental needs
  • Working knowledge of technical theatre elements including lighting sound costumes and stage production
  • Strong communication collaboration and organizational skills
