Job Summary
The Sensor Systems Analysis and Engineering Portfolio at Leidos is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer to join our dynamic team in the development of cutting-edge EO/IR sensor systems. This role is critical in supporting the mechanical design integration and testing of advanced mechanical and optomechanical systems that enhance our capabilities in defense and aerospace applications. The Test Engineer will have a strong background in mechanical engineering principles and a passion for innovative technology along with interest or exposure to development or integration of electro-optical technology.
Our program focuses on the development of state-of-the-art EO/IR sensor systems that are integral to modern defense solutions. These systems are designed to provide enhanced target detection and tracking capabilities ensuring superior performance in various operational environments. As part of our team the Test Engineer will contribute to the advancement of technologies that protect and serve and work alongside a skilled team of Engineers Scientists and Software Developers to design and develop new and existing solutions to support future fielded systems.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design develop and test mechanical components and assemblies for EO/IR sensor system applications.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical hardware with optical and electronic solutions.
Conduct system-level testing and validation to ensure compliance with mechanical performance specifications and environmental requirements.
Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical issues including thermal management structural integrity and alignment providing timely solutions to enhance system reliability.
Document design processes test results and technical specifications for project records.
Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
0 years of experience in mechanical system design development and testing.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks CREO AutoCAD) and FEA tools.
Strong understanding of mechanical components and systems including optomechanical assemblies thermal management and structural design.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Must be a resident or willing to relocate to the Huntsville AL area.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance or possess and maintain a Final Secret Security Clearance.
U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with optomechanical design and precision alignment techniques.
Experience with thermal analysis and vibration testing.
Knowledge of materials selection manufacturing processes and tolerance analysis.
Familiarity with military standards and regulations related to defense systems (e.g. MIL-STD-810 for environmental testing).
Familiarity with Ubuntu or other Linux-based operating systems.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $57850.00 - $104575.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job education experience knowledge skills and abilities as well as internal equity alignment with market data applicable bargaining agreement (if any) or other law.
