Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Poverty and Development

Covenant College has a beautiful 400-acre campus that stretches atop Lookout Mountain Georgia on the Georgia/Tennessee border just outside of Chattanooga. The community is a hub of vibrant cultural educational business high-tech and entertainment activity and is an affordable place to live or raise a family. The region is widely known as an outdoor recreational paradise for campers boaters cyclists climbers cavers and hikers all while being conveniently located within two hours of Atlanta Nashville and Knoxville.

The Department of Economics and Development at Covenant College an agency of the Presbyterian Church in America and an academically rigorous Christian college emphasizing the liberal arts in the Reformed and Presbyterian tradition invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position beginning July 1 2027. Rank and compensation will be commensurate with experience.

While remaining firmly committed to its foundational commitments with respect to poverty alleviation the college has adopted a new Poverty and Development Program which equips students to seek creative solutions to poverty in a much wider range of settings and sectors than ever before.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach a variety of undergraduate courses related to poverty and development that reflect both the current needs of the department and the professors particular areas of expertise and interest.
• Teach multiple sections of a junior-level core curriculum course focused on faithful engagement with issues related to poverty and migration.
• Work with partner organizations to create outstanding summer-long field experiences for undergraduate students.
• Engage in research scholarship and other professional activities.
• Mentor and advise undergraduate students.
• Participate in the life of the campus community and faculty governance.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Community Development Intercultural Studies Public Administration or a related field in the Social Sciences from a regionally accredited institution by July 1 2027 preferred. Candidates with Masters Degrees will also be considered.
• Field experience in facilitation program design or evaluation in a range of cross-cultural settings
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching
• Enthusiasm for working with undergraduates in applied cross-cultural research
• Commitment to the mission of Covenant College
