Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Computer Science

Job Description

Tenure-Track Faculty in the Department of Computer Science hold full-time appointments with a workload allocation of approximately 40% teaching 50% research and 10% service. They are expected to develop nationally recognized research programs supported by external funding disseminate their work in high-impact venues and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses curriculum development and the use of effective and inclusive pedagogy. Tenure-Track Faculty also contribute to departmental university and professional service consistent with Virginia Techs land-grant mission and commitment to Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). Their performance is evaluated annually and advancement is governed by the universitys promotion and tenure process.

Required Qualifications

- An earned doctoral degree in Computer Science or closely related field at the time of the appointment and a rank-appropriate record of scholarship and collaboration in computing research.

- Record of significant research accomplishments (e.g. publications) and rank-appropriate record of professional service.

- Ability to contribute to the departments teaching mission at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Preferred Qualifications

- Demonstrated interest in collaborative research in fields represented by departments existing faculty or planned hiring.

- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work collaboratively with faculty from a variety of disciplines.

- Recognition of research excellence as demonstrated by e.g. best paper or society awards.

- Instructional experience in higher education.
