Job Summary

Primary Purpose:

Maintains the effective operation of the districts telecommunications systems and troubleshoots and resolves telecommunication issues. Arranges service and installation of equipment and supervises personnel in support of these operations. Programs dial plans databases and advanced features for the VOIP system and supporting programs as needed. Responsible for the administration filing and maintenance of all Schools and Libraries Program Erate forms for all district telecommunication services.

Education / Certification:

  1. Bachelors degree in technology or related field is required.
    1. Three years of related experience or evidence of appropriate telecommunications /computer skills can be substituted for the Bachelors Degree.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Ability to concentrate and communicate effectively (verbally and written).

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Three years of related telecommunications / computer experience is required.
    1. A Bachelors degree in technology or related field can be substituted for the required experience.
  2. Experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager VOIP telecommunications equipment Unity Connection Emergency Responder InformaCast Unified Call Center Manager.
  3. Experience in Schools and Libraries Program for applying for Erate funding.
  4. Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business including after hours or when away from the office on district business.
  5. Valid Texas Drivers License or the ability to obtain one by the first date of employment.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Administers maintains and troubleshoots telecommunications equipment voice mail emergency services and various application software products as required by the district.
  2. Supervises telecom/data technicians for installation of campus telecom/data equipment fiber wiring of network and cable circuits.
  3. Administers and files all Schools and Libraries Program Erate forms required for Erate discounts for telecommunications services Internet access and internal connections.
  4. Responsible for all Helpdesk requests related to phones voicemail phone repairs replacement of phones and all related troubleshooting.
  5. Communicates with vendors suppliers and consultants regarding telecommunications equipment and systems monitors contracts and maintenance agreements and negotiates vendor contracts as well as billing issues.
  6. Responsible for validating the accuracy of all invoices related to telecommunications equipment and services. Ensures prompt payment of telecommunications invoices.
  7. Provides information training and technical assistance to end-users regarding the use of telecommunications equipment and systems and assists in troubleshooting for end users.
  8. Maintains skill in oral and written communications explain procedures techniques and answer questions in a clear logical manner.
  9. Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  10. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises and evaluates the performance of telecommunications staff.

Equipment Used:

Personal computer telephone equipment and all other standard office equipment.
