Technical Writer II

• Research and write original content for magazines newsletters user manuals and research documents
• Collaborate with engineers researchers and technical staff to translate complex concepts into clear narratives
• Provide substantive editing across all production stages correcting grammar spelling and format errors
• Verify technical accuracy through interviews conference attendance and review of source materials
• Ensure compliance with the GPO Style Manual Chicago Manual of Style and Section 508 accessibility standards
• Manage copyright and permissions clearances for referenced or embedded material
• Independently manage the full lifecycle of a document or article through multiple review cycles to final publication

• Bachelors degree in Technical Writing English Communications Journalism or a related technical field
• 5-10 years of professional experience in technical writing editing and publishing
• Demonstrated expertise applying the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style and ensuring Section 508 compliance
• Transportation sector experience especially highway and surface transportation research preferred
• Ability to obtain a USDOT Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential
