Position Summary

The Teacher of the Severely Multiply Impaired (SXI) is responsible for the instructional program and implementation of activities for the students in the assigned classroom. Responsible for the coordination of the activities of the assigned para-educators and support staff providing services for students in the assigned area.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree required. Valid Michigan teachers certificate required with approval in at least one of the following special education areas: cognitive impairment visual impairment hearing impairment and/or physically or otherwise health impaired (POHI).

Experience: One to two years of experience preferred.

Skills/Other: Ability to accept supervision and direction. Ability to work creatively and skillfully with students. Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for: lifting and moving students up to 26 years of age; repetitive stooping squatting bending lifting walking kneeling and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability; implementing behavior management plans and performing the essential job duties. Works successfully as a team member. Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency as required skills sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work a flexible workday work week and work year. Represents the district in a professional manner at all times. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policy and established administrative guidelines.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range:$48446 - $94537 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Work Schedule: 206 days / 7 hours daily

Paid Time Off:

• 14 sick days which includes 3 personal business days
• Bereavement Leave
