Job Summary
QUALIFICATIONS
The position shall require a validNew Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification and/or valid New Jersey Teacher of the Handicapped certification and/or other such appropriate certificate as required by the State of New Jersey Board of Examiners. Appointment shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent. This position requires the medical and physical capacity to perform the major responsibilities.

Appointment shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent. Tenure shall be granted in accordance with state mandates.
CONTRACT AND SALARY
The salary for this position shall be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the contract between the Board of Education and the Mercer County Special Services Education and Therapeutic Association.
REPORTS TO
The teacher shall report to the building principal or other administrators as designatedby the superintendent. His/her performance shall be evaluated in a manner consistent with policies and procedures of the board of Education as described in policy 4115.1.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The teacher is the educational specialist who transmits the mandates intentions and efforts of state officials the Board of Education and the administrative and supportive staff of the school district for the provision of a thorough and efficient education for pupils into practical reality.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
In order to fulfill his/her professional responsibilities the teacher shall:
1.Instructional Organization
instruction on an individual small group and whole group basis as appropriate based upon the students IEPs and in consultation when necessary with administrators teachers and professional staff.
student instruction in literacy mathematical and communication skills as needed.
2. Teaching Presentation
a. Promote the educational growth of pupils commensurate with pupil ability as described inindividualized educational plans.
select and use materials and techniques appropriate to pupil needspupil ability educational objectives and the curriculum consistent with individualizededucational plans.
and implement learning experiences compatible with the curriculum of the schooldistrict and the individualized educational plan of the pupil.
the activities of classroom assistants.
3. Evaluation
a. Provide frequent evaluations to determine pupils mastery of objectives.
b. Maintain records of student progress.
4. Behavior Management
a. Promote the worth and dignity of pupils and strive for their educational success.
b. Establish positive pupil-teacher relationships.
c. Share responsibility for maintaining appropriate pupil behavior.
d. Assist students in dealing with their emotional and social problems through individual and group methods.
e. Establish and maintain standards of behavior necessary for learning and the well beingof the pupil and others in accordance with school law state regulations and the policiesof the Board of Education.
5. Staff and Parent Interaction
a. Maintain appropriate liaison and communication with parents.
b. Maintain cooperative relationships with other members of the instructional support and administrative staffs.
c. Work effectively with other staff members in planning and evaluating the educationalprogram.
6. Professionalism
a. Exhibit respect and support for and adherence to goals objectives policies andprocedures approved by the Board of Education.
b. Share in the upholding and enforcing of school rules administrative regulations and the policies of the Board of Education.
c. Participate in staff development programs and staff meetings commensurate withthe policies of the Board of Education and contractual obligations.
d. Perform additional duties to those specified at the request of the superintendent orhis/her designee.
