Teacher (CTE) Aviation Aircraft Pilot

Under the supervision of the Principal or Assistant Principal the Aviation Teacher is responsible for instructing students in aviation technology and pilot training

• Teach all phases of aviation technology including Pilot-Ground and Air Traffic Control to students
• Engages students in the study of aviation technology fostering an appreciation for the field and its practical applications in piloting.
• Demonstrates aviation technology concepts and techniques through hands-on instruction.
• Instructs students on the proper care handling and use of aviation technology equipment.
• Support and demonstrate commitment to the mission vision core principles and policies of the Danville Public Schools
• Adhere to all district policies procedures and business ethics codes
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and clearly and concisely communicate those objectives to students
• Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the divisions basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
• Identify select and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds learning styles and special needs; incorporate new and emerging technology into the instructional process
• Organize class time so that preparation instruction lab work and cleanup are all accomplished as applicable
• Create a welcoming supportive challenging and engaging learning environment for students; encourage cooperation among students
• Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students parents peers and the community
• Communicate necessary information regularly to students colleagues and parents regarding student progress and needs; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers relative to school matters
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
• Participate in additional days of occupational-related instructional training (including but not limited to: SkillsUSA competitions teacher certification attainment industry certification training etc.)
• Evaluate students academic and social growth prepare report cards and keep appropriate records including attendance reports checklists census forms and other recordkeeping activities as necessary
• Administer testing in accordance with division and State testing practices and requirements
• Instruct students on appropriate safety measures and expectations; demonstrate and teach students about the use of eye protection safety guards and the proper use and safe operation of tools machines and equipment as applicable
• Manage the classroom to ensure the best use of instructional time; develop and implement appropriate classroom management strategies while maintaining high expectations for student behavior
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on staff committees
• Facilitate Career and Technical Education (CTE) program advisory committee meetings
• Sponsor the local chapter of their respective Career & Technical Student Organization (CTSO); encourage and assist students in competition preparation
• Coordinate and oversee Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences
• Foster workplace readiness skills by strategically integrating Virginias 5Cs (critical thinking creative thinking communication collaboration and citizenship) skills into daily lesson plans
• Participate in and provide business partners for the CTE Advisory Board
• Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must possess an in-depth knowledge of aviation technology and possess a current pilots license. Private Pilot License Commercial Pilot License and Flight Instructor certification preferred.
• Must possess working skills and abilities in the operation of a variety of aviation technology devices and equipment.
• Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
• Must possess an in-depth knowledge of aviation technology and Drone Technology.
• Must possess working skills and abilities in the operation of a variety of aviation technology devices and equipment.
• Must possess the ability to instruct students in the field of aviation technology.
• Manages classroom resources including selecting requisitioning and maintaining books instructional materials aviation technology equipment and instructional aids.
• Conducts minor repairs and adjustments to aviation technology equipment and coordinates major repairs as needed.
• Stays current with industry advancements research and new technologies in aviation instruction to enhance curriculum and teaching in curriculum development; ability to create lesson plans to meet the needs of a diverse student population
• Willingness to work collaboratively and serve as a resource for faculty
• Commitment to student learning personal growth and professional development
• Strong classroom management skills are required
• Highly organized

Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license and possess a current pilots license. Bachelors or Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education training and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and competencies in aviation technology and instruction.

Significant standing walking moving carrying and bending. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

11 months (220 days); 7.5 hours per day

EVALUATION

Performance evaluation will be conducted annually by the Principal on the effectiveness by which the employee has carried out the above responsibilities.
