Tax Staff AccountantPosition Overview
We are looking for a detail oriented and self-motivatedindividualtojoinShaws fast-paced dynamic diverse andevolvingCorporate Tax Department.Thetaxstaffaccountant willassistthe TaxDepartmentin all functions related to domesticinternational incomefranchise sales and usetaxation for Shaw Industries Group Inc.subsidiariesand related entities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
On a timely and accurate basis thisAccountant willbe responsible for thepreparation of the income and franchise tax returns of Shaw Industries Group Inc. and related entities including but not limited to the following: consolidated federal income tax return separate company and combined state income tax franchise tax excise tax and similar returns U.S. reporting regarding foreign corporations including compliance-related forms and information-reporting forms foreign local currency tax returns.Assistin the preparationof all federalstateand foreign estimated payments and extensions.Accountable for theaccurateandtimelyfiling of 300monthly salesand usetax returns monthly.Responsible for extracting tax data from various sources for return preparation reviewing data for completeness and accuracy and importing into Vertex Quantum Returns.Responsible for monthly reconciliation of all sales and use tax accounts for Shawentities.Preparation of journal entry adjustments to the General Ledger.Assistwith tax audits by gathering information requested by auditors reviewing auditors proposed adjustments anddocumenting conclusions for TaxSeniors review.Draft responses to notices from the IRSstateand foreign departments of revenue ona timelybasis for TaxSeniors review.Assist the Tax Senior in thepreparation of the quarterly and annual domestic income tax provisions (including schedules and workpapers) required under ASC 740 which includesthe calculationof income tax contingencies for FIN 48 analysis.Research and document tax related issues and propose solutions or other actions to TaxSenior.Follow legislative updates anddeterminethe applicabilityto companysbusiness activities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in accounting.Taxaccounting concentration preferred but not required.Alternately sufficient experienceindicatinga level ofknowledgein corporate incomeor sales andusetaxes.
Ability to do income tax research using electronic research tools.
Basic understanding of federal corporate income tax return preparation process including tax workpaper preparation and cross referencing calculation of basic book/taxdifferencesand understanding of federal Form 1120.
Basic understanding of state income tax return preparation process including apportionment concepts and ability to research each states filing requirements.
Basic understanding of salesand usetaxlaw.
Comprehensive knowledge ofMSOffice.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely using formal business writing techniques and internal memorandum.
Organizational skills.
