Role Overview

The Tax Director will lead and manage tax compliance for a publicly traded REIT with primary responsibility for REIT qualification partnership tax reporting and multi-state compliance. This role is heavily execution- and review-focused ensuring accurate and timely filings across a complex entity structure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage evaluate and structure transactions to maintain REIT qualification
  • Manage REIT compliance including preparation and review of quarterly and annual REIT testing and distribution requirements
  • Oversee preparation and review of federal and multi-state REIT and partnership tax returns including tiered structures and operating partnerships
  • Review Schedule K-1s allocations and investor reporting
  • Ensure timely filing of REIT partnership and corporate tax returns extensions and estimated payments
  • Coordinate multi-state compliance including composite filings and withholding requirements
  • Manage internal tax team and external tax advisors and review deliverables
  • Respond to tax notices audits and information requests
  • Partner with accounting legal and investment teams on tax-related inquiries and to ensure accurate tax reporting data

Position Requirements
  • 810 years of tax experience within public accounting and/or private industry with emphasis on REIT and partnership tax compliance
  • Strong technical knowledge of REIT qualification rules and partnership taxation
  • Experience with multi-state tax filings and apportionment
  • CPA preferred
  • Combination of Big 4/public accounting and real estate industry experience strongly preferred
  • Strong Excel and tax compliance software experience
