Overview:The Door is an unparalleled model for youth development offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within a single site fornearly eleven thousand New York City youth each year. Broome Street Academy (BSA) is our on-site tuition-free public charter high school devoted to providingstudentsthe necessary skills and support to graduate prepared for a successful future beyond high The Door and Broome Street Academy are implementing a Community Schools initiative to develop and implement sustainable best practices for improved student attendance and academic success student and caregiver engagement and academic achievement.

TheSYEPProgram Coordinator is a Door employee 100% dedicated to BSA students serving as part of an inter-disciplinary team of staff from bothorganizations.S/he servesas theprogramdirectorfor The Doors school-based Summer Youth Employment Program

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Door and BSA staff to recruit new businesses and organizationsforquality work-based learning opportunities for students.

• Maintain lists of businesses/industries willing toparticipatein work-based learning; collaborate and liaise with The Doors Career Services teamforopportunities

• Disseminate information on summer Work-Based Learning programs to employers parents teachers students and staff

• Partnerwith Door and BSA staff to assess screen interviewandselect and placingqualified studentsintowork-based learning experiencesand based on their career interests and program of study

• Overseeadministrative implementation of SYEPprogram

• Ensure accurate submission of enrollment payroll and evaluations of SYEP participantsincluding allphysicalpaperwork and data entry

• Monitor SYEP activities including recruitment registration and collection of documentation orientation payroll and programimplementation

• Conduct pre-assessments andweekly assessments of work sites during the summer program travelas needed

• Plan coordinate andassistwith facilitation of work readiness training workshopsand participantorientation

• Facilitate participant payrollorientation

• Monitor and review incident reports andinform DYCD of all incidents

• Prepare review and edit written materials as needed for correspondence brochures and agendas

• Maintain an inventory of supplies and materials to supporttheSummer Youth Employment Program

• Participate in professional development and external meetings and conferences including DYCDmeetings.

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Psychology Sociology Urban PolicyEducationor relatedfieldstrongly preferred or extensive related professional experience

• Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people

• At least 3 years ofexperience coordinating summer youth employment programs related experience including experience supervising or managing summer youth employmentprograms

• Experience inestablishingindustry and communitypartnerships

• Knowledge of work-based learning initiatives to include career counseling

• Prior experience in working withvulnerable youth populations (foster care court involved runaway and homeless or teen parent etc.)

• Prior experience creating andfacilitatingwork-basedlearningworkshops and trainings

• Demonstrated understanding and practice of the principles of positive youth development

• Ability to model work readiness skills and appropriatework placebehavior at all times along withdemonstratedability to exercise sound judgment

• Demonstrated team player who is comfortable with ambiguity flexible collaborative easy going and has a sense of humor

• Excellent verbal andwritten communications skills

• Experience in establishing industry and communitypartnerships

• Experience in creating work-based learning opportunities for students

• Abilityto work collaboratively with other experienced professionals teachers parentsstudentsand other stakeholders

• Strong computer and technology skills;proficiencyin Microsoft Outlook WordExceland PowerPoint

• Proficiencyin Spanish French or Mandarin strongly preferred.

Salary: $52000 - $56000 plus generous benefits.

Multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to French Spanish or Arabic preferred.
