Job Summary
As a Survey Intern at ICE you will gain valuable industry experience by working with our Survey team. Internships with ICE allow you to continue your education with a real-world experience that will enhance your future academic experiences. There is room for growth within our organization for dedicated civil engineering professionals. All employment offers are contingent upon the applicant successfully completing drug and background screenings. Internships provide an opportunity to be part of adiverse and engaged community of professionals and to be treated as a respected and valued member of the ICE team. The internship will span 12 weeks.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the performance of boundary topographic right-of-way transportation and road and bridge construction surveys.
- Operate various surveying equipment including total station levels GPS and data collectors.
- Make arithmetic and geometric calculations (i.e. percentages ratio averages) performs inspection and maintenance of surveying equipment.
- Ability to work (1) in all types of weather (2) adjacent to vehicular traffic (3) on all types of terrain and (4) on steel beams over water.
- Work in a team-oriented manner with General Contractors Subcontractors public and the SCDOT.

- Above average math and problem-solving skills are required.
- Demonstrated research skills and resourcefulness.
- Ability to work well individually and in a team setting.
- Above average computer literacy & keyboard skills.
- Ability to solve problems and think outside of the box.
- Organizational Skills and Math Aptitude.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of professionalism and integrity.

- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Be detail-oriented with a strategic focusto meet deadlines.
- A valid Drivers License is required with a safe driving record and must complete a pre-employment screening.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering Construction Management or a related field; Junior or Senior desired.
- Academic Juniors and Seniors preferred.
- Prior internship experience preferred.

ICE interns are paired with more experienced staff members in order to provide guidance and support throughout the internship process. They will report directly to a team lead who will provide regular feedback special training guidance evaluation and support. The lead will provide information about their career path as well as assisting the intern with exploring career opportunities at the firm setting goals developing contacts and identifying resources.

We foster collaborative learning environment where interaction with our dedicated team of engineers encourages students to develop ideas and make mistakes. Collaborative learning also involves learning from peers and fellow interns. The primary goal of the internship is to gain as much experience as possible. While an intern may not have major tasks assigned to them they should pay close attention to all the steps that go into completing the project. At the end of the internship the intern should be confident to individually manage project tasks and work independently. ICEs dedicated recruiting team will assist the intern with full-time employment opportunities once they are ready to graduate.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking standing bending and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects and proficiency in recognizing sound tone and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions including hot cold and noisy settings and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic.
Expected Hours of Work
The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office 5 days a week.
