Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Surgical Services Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the decontamination sterilization and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment used in the operating room and other sterile environments. This role ensures all instruments meet infection control standards and are ready for use by surgical teams. The SPT works closely with clinical staff to maintain sterile supplies supports surgical procedures and adheres to hospital policies and safety protocols. A minimum of 2 years of experience and required certifications are mandatory for this position.

Responsibilities:
  • Decontaminate clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness functionality and damage prior to sterilization.
  • Assemble surgical instrument sets and trays accurately for various surgical procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of sterile supplies and ensure proper storage and labeling.
  • Collaborate with surgical and nursing staff to meet procedural needs and ensure timely instrument availability.
  • Document sterilization processes and maintain compliance with infection control standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow safety guidelines to prevent contamination and ensure a sterile environment.
  • Wear designated scrubs and maintain professional appearance consistent with hospital policies.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in sterile processing or related field.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Certification in Sterile Processing such as IAHCSMM HSPA or CRCST.
  • Ability to follow strict infection control and sterilization protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience working in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with surgical procedures and instrumentation.
  • Ability to operate sterilization equipment and related technology.
Special Considerations:
  • Monday through Friday schedule with no on-call requirements.
  • Scheduling preferences may be considered but are not guaranteed.
  • Requests for scheduling due to additional employment will not be considered.
  • All return-to-office (RTO) needs must be included at the time of submission.
  • Radius for commute is 50 miles.
  • Scrubs are provided in navy blue color.
  • Facility allows for one call-off per two-week pay period.
Scheduling:
  • Standard Monday to Friday daytime schedule.
  • Start date is ASAP with Monday start preferred; off-cycle starts possible.
  • Block scheduling accommodations may be made at managers discretion.
