Supervisor: Conservation Manager
Summary: Work with Tennessee Supreme Court records as part of a larger processing team. Tasks include document analysis data entry basic cleaning humidification and flattening and rehousing.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform basic surface cleaning on documents and remove fasteners under supervision of the Conservation Manager.
- Humidify and flatten documents as needed under supervision of the Conservation Manager.
- Read and comprehend records for key descriptive information.
- Enter information into an online database.
- Rehouse materials in archival folders and boxes following proper procedure and keeping careful documentation of all box numbers and other location information.
- Handle all materials carefully following handling guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma and college-level coursework or experience in Archives or a related field.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to decipher 18th- and 19th-century handwriting.
- Ability to quickly scan and distill information from large case files.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:
- Familiarity with court records or legal and judicial proceedings.
- Descriptive writing skills.
- Experience with cataloging/metadata.
- Ability to recognize topics names and organizations from Tennessee history.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and database software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work with dusty collection materials.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes of books and records weighing up to forty pounds.
- Assist the organization in creating a safe and healthy working environment by working safely with the equipment provided.
- Follow instructions given for health and safety purposes and immediately report any unsafe working practices or hazardous working conditions.
- Protect the collections from loss damage or theft.
Health safety and collections security:
- Assist the organization in creating a safe and healthy work environment by working safely with the equipment provided.

- Take all measures necessary to protect the collections from loss mutilation or theft.
Salary: $15.00/hour This position is part-time.
