Job Summary

Establish and maintain centralized Corrosion Control & Damage Prevention programs at Berkshire Gas. Responsible for coordination of bargaining unit employees and outside contractors performing tasks associated to the Cathodic protection system & the Damage Prevention programs. The supervisor will be responsible for compliance with Federal Code and State Regulations associated to both Damage Prevention and Corrosion Control.

Review and communicate program metrics & performance to management team. Provide review and guidance on operational best practices. Responsible for electronic corrosion data inspection processes and inspection databases. Oversee the damage prevention program including scheduling tracking and reporting according to Berkshire gas Work Practices/Gas Operating Procedures.

Responsible for developing implementing monitoring tracking and reporting a statewide Damage Prevention Program for Berkshire Gas to ensure protection against any damages that could impact the Berkshire gas facilities. May interact with regulatory agencies local municipalities Massachusetts Dig Safe Industry Organizations and third-party contractors to review problems/concerns and ensure compliance.

Perform damage investigations on any damages that occurs within the system. The supervisor will support gas field operations and other departments within the Avangrid organization & execute other duties as requested.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs a staff of Bargaining Unit employees.
  • Prepares and communicates corrosion program status and performance reports and maintains records for corrosion inspection monitoring and identification of remedial activities in the
    group.
  • Maintains mandated cathodic protection system data including pipe/soil voltage readings rectifier and interference bond operational readings databases and other assigned group monitoring activities.
  • Identifies employee development and training opportunities within the group.
  • Responsible for proper application and availability of all necessary tools and equipment needed to perform corrosion control functions in the group.
  • Develops and maintains annual inspection and monitoring schedules in accordance with all regulatory requirements. Will recommend remedial actions to restore cathodic protection systems to mandate performance criteria.
  • Responsible for all electronic corrosion data inspection processes and inspection databases.
  • Supports Gas Field Operations and other departments in pipe jeeping sparking condition investigations and capital project completion.
  • Applies company industry local state national codes and standards and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Interacts with customers developers municipalities agencies and others.
  • Manages technical support contractors and consultants.
  • Reviews maintains and utilizes SAP equipment data and SAP processes supporting the corporate use of contractor/consultant resources.
  • Works with internal mark out technicians to ensure accurate mark outs.
  • Reports to and investigates excavation damages and assists with data collection used for regulatory reporting of damage and compliance performance metrics.
  • May investigate and coordinate resolution of mapping issues between field operations and technical services when needed.
  • Reviews and tracks Blasting tickets and Cast-Iron Encroachment tickets notifies proper departments as to the need of special monitoring of blasting activity per Company Operating Policy and Standards.
  • Runs reports from the ticket management system to update maintain review and ensure the completion of high-quality documentation of 3rd party inspections and mark out completion forms by field personnel.
  • Promotes an internal safety culture through educational awareness and a public awareness program.
  • Represent the Company during contacts with landowner/tenants public officials and emergency officials at local meetings.
  • Trains Company second party and third-party personnel as required.
  • Coordinates with Operations Supervisors to ensure damage prevention procedures and initiatives are in compliance.
  • Ensures that the MA Safe Digging Excavator Manual and the DPU excavation regulations are adhered to by third party contractors and company construction crews. May interact with regulatory agencies local municipalities industry organizations and third-party contractors to solve problems/concerns and ensure compliance.
  • Employee is assigned to the specified location with travel to other operating divisions or Avangrid locations as needed. Occasional work outside of the service territory for industry or Government
    meetings or training may occur.

Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience Required:
    • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 5 or more years relevant experience preferred.
    • Associate degree with a minimum of 7 or more years relevant experience preferred.
    • High School Diploma/GED required with 10 or more years relevant experience and the completion of the relevant progression program.
    • Knowledge of gas distribution construction and maintenance
    • Knowledge of industry federal and state regulations
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Certifications:
    • Valid Drivers License
    • AMPP CP-1 Certification
    • Will be required to obtain and maintain Operator Qualifications for natural gas
  • Skills/Abilities:
    • Results and customer service oriented.
    • Good oral and written communications skills.
    • Self-directed work skills with emphasis on multitasking.
    • Computer skills applicable to MS Word MS Excel SAP MS Outlook.
    • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Must be available for response after hours to work storms emergencies and critical assignments.
    • Technical problem-solving abilities
