We are collecting resumes for current and future openings in 2026. The final work location will be based anywhere across our U.S. network and will be determined based on business needs.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Deliver yard and train performance to the Operating Plan including the development and execution of plans and strategies for safety service and productivity to achieve financial results for assigned territory. As the Superintendent you areaccountablefor inputs and outputs of safety service productivity financial metrics and adherence to corporate values. You will ensure focused improvements in the development of the workforce for succession planning of operations.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Optimize productivity (e.g. terminal velocity) by ensuring on-time train performance yard performance and over-the-road fluidity to meet operating targets and customer requirements
  • Develop employees and assist in establishing career development plans
  • Operate within a budget control costs and have input to capital budgets for their territory
  • Ensure safety plan process is rolled out and targets aremet
  • Manage the workforce to ensure productivity and cost control
  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and provide input to Labor Relations for future contract negotiations
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and maintain effective working relationships (e.g. FRA etc.)
  • Build and sustain positiverelationships with internal and external customers
  • Ensure timely implementation of processes identified and directed through corporate initiatives
  • Accountable for the inventory management of terminals and line of road in their areas of responsibility
  • Take ownership of all rail cars idle 24 hours or longer
  • Accountable for full understanding of business requirements service commitments and any service penalty conditions for customers in their geographic area
  • Accountable for the understanding of and capability to personally access/use any and all systems and technology used by their staff (i.e. TYES NEXUS AIR)
  • Occasionally operate trains; maintain certifications and licenses General Code Operating Rules (GCOR Engineer etc.) as per industry regulations

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • 10 years of railway experience qualified Conductor or Locomotive Engineer preferred
  • Valid drivers license
  • Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one; allowing entry/re-entry to Canada and Mexico
  • Must be or become GCOR rulesqualified
  • Knowledge of investigations and root cause analysis
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels and through multiple channels including written verbal phone and computer-based communication
  • Ability to set priorities develop action plans and execute effectively under pressure
  • Willingness to be available 24/7 as required for operational leadership needs

This is asafety criticalposition and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical vision hearing and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
