Summer Tortenson Scholar Student Research Assistant 2026-27

Job Summary
The Torstenson Scholars Program in the Department of Sociology has three research assistant positions for students who are fluent (speaking writing and reading) in one of each of the following languages: Spanish Somali or Hmong. The student researchers will work to translate a survey and all supporting documentation on the mental health impact of Operation Metro Surge in the Twin Cities and support the data collection process. The work includes the following:
- Translating the survey and supporting documentation.
- Working to recruit research participants in the Latin American Somali or Hmong communities of the Twin Cities.
- Conducting interviews with research participants in Spanish Somali or Hmong.
- Translating these interviews into English.
- Meeting regularly with the primary investigator for this research project.
- Additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications :
- Must be a currently enrolled Augsburg Student.
- Must be fluent (at least speaking but ideally writing and reading as well) in one of the following languages: Spanish Somali or Hmong.
- Ability to complete approximately 100 hours of work over the summer and if needed into the 2026-2027 academic year.
- Must be a social science major preferably sociology or psychology.
- Strong time management skills organization skills adaptability and sense of accountability.
- Ability to work independently.
- Attention to detail and consistency.
