Are you looking for a meaningful way to spend your summer gain real-world experience and make a difference in your community Marlborough District Council is offering a range of paid internships across different teams - from marketing to recreation science and gardens.

Available roles:
- Environmental Science and Monitoring (40 hrs per week) This role provides a great opportunity to gain hands on experience of bathing water sampling; low flow gauging; data processing; site maintenance and upkeep of monitoring equipment; surveying; SOE sampling; standard river gauging; and general fieldwork.
- Marketing & Communications (40 hrs per week) You will assist the Marketing & Communications Manager at Destination Marlborough with marketing & content creation duties. The role will also involve website development.
- Recreation (40 hrs per week) You will assist the Parks & Open Spaces team supporting day-to-day operations.
- Gardens (two roles) (40 hrs per week) Work outdoors in our award-winning gardens at Pollard Park and Seymour Square.

These internships are open to students who havecompleted or will have completed at least their first year of studytoward aNew Zealand tertiary qualificationby the time the internship begins.
Were looking for people who:
- Are available from November 2026 to February 2027 (note: Council will be closed from 24 Dec to 4 Jan)
- Will be residing in Marlborough during this period
- Are keen to learnand ready to apply their skills in a real-world setting
- Are good communicatorswho enjoy working with others
- Are organised and reliable with a positive attitude
- Are comfortable using everyday digital tools(like email spreadsheets and online systems)
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Are open to feedbackand willing to grow
- Have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Specific role requirements:
- Environmental Science and Monitoring You will be undertaking an Environmental Science degree and have an interest in monitoring and/or fieldwork.
- Marketing & Communications You will be creative organised and passionate about marketing and storytelling. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Basic graphic design skills and experience with photography videography or video editing would be advantageous but are not essential. Experience with or an interest in website content management (CMS) and digital marketing is desirable. The successful candidate will be proactive able to work independently and comfortable taking initiative.
- Recreation Were looking for an outgoing person pursuing a degree in recreation or sports. A speciality in GIS focus and planning (recreational or other) is desirable.
- Gardens You will have experience in practical horticulture skills have a passion for plants be enthusiastic about working outside and have a thirst for learning more about horticulture and botanic gardens.
