Up to 20 Hours Per Week Schedule will vary based on the students/students availability.
WEEKLY HOURS AVAILABLE: Students should be prepared to completed an 8-hour training session. Following the completion of the training students will work approximately 6 hours per week during the 8-week MCC101 course term.
Each mentor will be assigned to three uncombined MCC101 sections and will host a separate one-hour meeting each week for every section. (In-person or Zoom) Because mentors deliver the same weekly meeting content and week in the life emails across the three sections planning and email preparation time will remain the same for each section and more time will be required to respond to student communications.- Position Summary
Assist the MCC101: College Experience course by serving as a peer mentor to newly enrolled students. Student Mentors help new students feel welcomed supported and prepared for college life by sharing their own MCC experience through Canvas communication weekly meetings with their assigned sections and a week in the life of an MCC student email.
- Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in a required summer training session (approximately 8 hours) covering mentoring expectations communication guidelines campus resources and MCC101 course content
- Communicate weekly with students enrolled in assigned MCC101 sections throughout the 8-week course
- Plan and host a weekly meeting for each assigned section; meetings may be held in person or virtually via Zoom and the format may vary from week to week (and within the same week)
- Write and send a weekly week in the life of an MCC student email to assigned sections sharing relatable practical tips and personal experiences (for example study strategies exam preparation or using campus resources like the Tutoring and Academic Support Center)
- Respond promptly and professionally to student questions and outreach
- Serve as a positive approachable role model who represents MCCs values and supports student belonging and success
- Check in with assigned course instructor weekly and copy the instructor on relevant course communications (esp. the weekly meeting plan)
- Be accountable for time and prompt completion of assigned tasks
- Report schedule and task completion using the approved forms
- Ability and willingness to use MCC email and Zoom to communicate internally and externally
- Ability and willingness to travel across campus and interact with others
- Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours at MCC
- Successful completion of MCC101: College Experience with a final grade of A or B
- Must hold a minimum of a 2.0 GPA (If youre a first semester student GPA requirement is waived)
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above; a GPA of 3.5 or higher is preferred

- Excellent communication interpersonal skills
- Ability to use Microsoft products and oce equipment
- Ability to use office equipment (copier multi-line phone etc.)
