Primary Responsibilities
Job Summary: This full-time position involves developing and overseeing strategies to support students in their academic success and leadership. Will report directly to Vice President for Student Affairs and will engage in various critical functions. Essential Job Functions (Order from most to least performed duties. Develop and implement student success and leadership strategies for students. Work directly with funders to ensure alignment on available resources to support student needs and opportunities. Assist with onboarding of new students and their families and ensure they are well-informed about available resources and opportunities. Collaborate with other student success areas within the university such as academic advising tutorial resources residential living campus activities civic engagement etc. Monitor and support the students academic progress and participation in the program. Plan develop and facilitate networking events enrichment activities campus and/or community projects and other support tasks as identified. Identify avenues or pathways regarding scholarship opportunities such as internships study abroad programs and masters degree programs. Compile and submit program data required reports or requests for information to the appropriate staff as required and permitted by law. Collaborate with the Living Learning Communities Coordinators to plan implement and attend programming and activities that align with the LLCs specific theme aiming to build community and deepen engagement. Attend meetings trainings and events as require by respective student areas and programs. Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to the needs of the university. Key Competencies: (Knowledge Skills and Abilities) Organizational skills: excellent problem-solving coordination and organizational skills to manage a diverse and demanding workload. Communication skills: ability to model teach and aid students in developing strong communication skills. Relationship management: strong ability to build and steward relationships with educational institutions community members and non-profits; ability to work effectively with individuals from all communities and cultures. Data-driven decision making: ability to leverage data to make informed programmatic decisions and improvements. Technical proficiency: proficient in Microsoft 365 applications and virtual platforms such as Zoom and Teams. Mentorship: guide students in navigating the higher education process. Human development: Counseling background required with knowledge of theoretical wellness models. Professionalism: understanding of FERPA and adherence to confidentiality. Physical Requirements: This position typically works in an office environment requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while using a computer. The role demands frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a keyboard mouse and other office equipment. Visual acuity is essential for reading and interpreting data on computer screens. Clear verbal communication skills are necessary for interacting with colleagues and employees. Additionally the job may involve occasional mobility around the office and attending meetings as well as frequent travel to attend off-site meetings and trainings. Expectation of Quality: Employee will support the mission of Sul Ross State University by providing high-quality professional services timely responses and solutions to customer requests. Security Sensitive: This position is classified as Security-Sensitive and is thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094 which authorize employers to obtain and review criminal history record information for applicants. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times. Any qualifications to be considered in lieu of stated minimums require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.
