Job Summary
- Issue tools and equipment to workers and maintain records of tools and equipment issued and returned manually or using computer.
- Inspect and measure tools and equipment for defects and wear visually or using micrometer and reports damage.
- Issue replacement tools to employees as required.
- Tear down and inspect incoming tooling and equipment for defects and wear.
- Perform inventory of the tools in the tool room.
- Maintain records of tools issued to and returned by workers.
- Mark and identify tools and equipment using identification tag stamp or electric marking tool.
- Prepare inventory reports for the supervisor.
- Investigate and search for missing tools.
- Receive unpack and store incoming tools and equipment and requisitions stock to replenish inventory.
- Utilize proper storage methods to increase availability and minimize loss.
- Maintain an organized tool room.
- Ensure tools are checked out and returned properly.
- Schedule preventative maintenance on the equipment.
- Route damaged dull and broken tools for repair sharpening and or replacement.
- Perform electrical safety checks on the equipment in accordance with approved procedures.
- Clean oil and perform minor repairs on equipment and tools.
- Ensure that measuring devices are periodically calibrated.
- Previous experience in a tool crib environment is required.
- Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have the ability to interact well with others.
- Must be proficient with the use of hand and power tools.
- Must have mechanical aptitude.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends.
- Must have tool setup experience.
- Must be reliable and have a good attendance record.
- Working knowledge of various hand tools materials and equipment used in shipyard repair operations preferred.
- Previous experience in a toolroom environment preferred.
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
- Must be able to lift carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job but no less than 20 lbs.
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat humidity noise and dirty conditions working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
- While performing the duties of this job you may frequently be required to stand walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and required to reach with hands and arms climb and balance stoop squat kneel twist and crawl.
- Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
- Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding cutting or working with molten metal.
