Job Summary

The Retail Store Manager plans directs and coordinates the daily operations of their assigned retail store. They drive sales by helping staff understand quotas and goals and coaching and motivating them to achieve those goals. The Store Manager supports Goodwills Mission by efficiently generating the revenue that funds the various programs offered to the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are representative of the essential functions of this position. Additional duties may be assigned as operational needs require.

People Management & Development

  • Maintain staffing at budgeted levels and build schedules that meet business needs and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Recruit hire onboard and train employees; provide feedback for performance reviews.
  • Consistently evaluate employee performance and promptly address performance issues.
  • Ensure the highest level of professionalism and apply best practices in the leadership of store personnel.

Sales & Merchandise Operations

  • Maintain adequate volume of merchandise on the sales floor; ensure production and rotation volume is sufficient to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Manage workflow and facility layout to ensure appropriate stock levels.
  • Maintain store presentation standards including organization merchandising cleanliness stock rotations proper inventory levels and signage.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Operate the facility within budgeted expense levels; maintain and control expenses relative to revenue.
  • Maintain proper cash controls in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and maintain neat accurate and timely reports and records as assigned.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Ensure excellent customer service is delivered to all shoppers and donors.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from employees program participants customers and the public using tact courtesy and cooperativeness.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with all levels of store leadership.

Compliance & Asset Protection

  • Safeguard company equipment property and donated goods.
  • Report any incident of damage misuse theft fraud waste or unauthorized possession of company property.
  • Works various shifts including weekends as assigned.

Supervisory Duties

Directly supervises store personnel. Responsibilities include recruiting hiring onboarding training scheduling performance management coaching and resolving employee complaints and issues in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required. Proven experience in retail management including leading store operations supervising teams and achieving sales and operational goals preferred.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Strong background in staff hiring training coaching and performance management.
  • Experience managing inventory merchandising financial reporting and loss prevention.
  • Skilled in budgeting expense management and maximizing store profitability.
  • Knowledge of company policy compliance safety regulations and nonprofit retail operations preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Basic math skills including addition subtraction percentages discounts taxes and commissions.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules operating instructions procedural manuals and reports.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills; able to work effectively with a variety of individuals.
  • Ability to count money accurately and handle financial transactions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
