They function as a member of the Central Sterilization team to transport supplies Instrument trays and equipment to the surgical service areas. The key function of this role is to service the Operating Room needs throughout the day for elective and urgent cases. They are responsible for stat cases.

Summary
The Sterile Distribution Technician assists with daily operations to support the operating rooms and various other units as needed. Participates as a member of the health care team to facilitate accurate and prompt perioperative care. They function as a member of the Central Sterilization team to transport supplies Instrument trays and equipment to the surgical service areas. The key function of this role is to service the Operating Room needs throughout the day for elective and urgent cases. They are responsible for stat cases.

Job Duties

  • Recognizes the patients their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patients personal preferences priorities needs and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team patient family and designated care partners.
  • Transports and or delivers supplies and equipment as directed to facilitate implementation of patient care to outside departments. Assists in the coordination of processed items with other team members.
  • Distributes sterile sets and disposables by scanning to appropriate areas using bar code system including STAT cases.
  • Documents pertinent information and relays messages regarding supplies equipment and distribution to the Central Supply and Operating Room supervisors and managers.
  • Delivers predetermined medical/surgical supplies to fill shelves and cabinets in supply medical equipment and storage rooms to maintain adequate stock. Monitors shelf life and establishes lead time for inventory and non-inventory supplies to ensure product integrity.
  • Inventories distributes and stores as scheduled on distribution log supplies necessary to maintain appropriate par levels as established by the SPD Operations Manager for purposes of providing supply availability to anticipated areas.
  • Assists in storage of sterile and non-sterile supplies.
  • Orders all inventory supplies and equipment to maintain adequate levels for patient care.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Participates in the onboarding process of new team members as appropriate per campus.

  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
  • Teamwork Understanding of the necessity and value of teamwork ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Operating Room Management Knowledge of and ability to apply appropriate policies procedures and management methods to maximize operating room efficiency and productivity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED graduate or equivalent
  • 1 year Housekeeping/cleaning experience Distribution and
  • 1 year Handling Sterile Supply experience preferred

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing frequent keyboard use *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling bending squatting and performing CPR.
