Job Duties and Responsibilities: This grant-funded role is designed to advance STEM education across PreK12 classrooms by providing high-quality professional learning curriculum development and facilitation support. The position also plays a vital role in establishing high-quality STEM out-of-school time (OST) programs and organizing outreach events. STEM Education Specialists collaborate with partner districts individual schools and community and governmental organizations throughout New Mexico to promote STEM learning. The position requires knowledge in adult learning theory and best practices for adult professional development; strong facilitation skills with the ability to design and deliver effective engaging learning experiences for educators; and comprehensive understanding of STEM content areas and their integration into both school-day and OST programs. Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead professional development and ongoing support to PreK12 principals teachers and staff implementing STEM-based OST and intervention curricula. Deliver professional learning experiences focused on effective STEM instructional strategies increasing educators capacity for impactful teaching and learning.
2. Assist school leaders in creating OST structures that align with and support the broader school community.
3. Develop hands-on inquiry-based curriculum materials that support academic growth in alignment with New Mexico State standards for science technology engineering mathematics language arts and computer science.
4. Collect and analyze data relevant to the work NMSU STEM Outreach does in communities and partner districts and apply results for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
Masters Degree in Education in a specialized field as defined in the position description 4 years or relevant experience.

Equivalent Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree in STEM Education or related field.

Special Certification/Licensure:

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed indoors.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Risk: No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
