Summary

The Steep Slope Foreman will repair remove and install steep slope commercial roofs with shingles slate tile metaland related materials. They will supervise and mentor laborers and roofers on the jobandoperatea companyvehicleto multiple jobs sites each day.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The lists below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or abilityrequired.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:High school graduate or GED preferred
  • Experience:3-5 years of hands-on steep slope commercial roofing.
  • Drivers License:Required
    • Must be approved tooperatea Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)
  • Certifications:OSHA10 First Aid and CPR Training preferred.
  • Languages:Must be fluent in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Travel: Must have the ability to travel 80% Monday Friday.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Technical Roofing Expertise:Knowledge of steep slope roofing installation methods and materials including edge metal flashing coping gutters crickets valleys ice & water shield pipe boots ridge/hip caps curbs and soldering techniques; ability to read shop drawings layout roofs and walls and reproduce manufacturing details.
  • Project & Materials Management:Ability to calculate labor projections stretch outs and material needs; manage material storage and inventory; and use measuring tools accurately for layout and installation.
  • Safety Leadership:Knowledge of safety procedures and the ability to implement a jobsite safety plan including toolbox talks and safety huddles.
  • Crew Supervision & Communication: Interpersonal and leadership skills to train supervise and direct crew and subcontractors; take corrective action as needed; communicate effectively (oral and written) with crew GCs and customers.
  • Planning & Problem-Solving:Ability to organize plan and execute work assignments; apply logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions; complete required paperwork (timesheets requisitions job reports); and resolve issues to keep work on schedule.

  • Thoroughly review the job file shop drawings and scope of work with the manager including materials ordered delivery schedule labor budget (man-days) and job site contacts.
  • Attend all coordination and planning meetings; meet with GC and customers as needed.
  • Receive manufacturer training asrequired.
  • Ensure proper safety equipment and procedures are in place and followed on site coordinating needs with the manager whileremainingultimately responsible.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Monitor andmaintainjob site cleanliness and daily housekeeping.
  • Supervise and support the crew daily on safety quality and labor production.
  • Train and coach crew members and subcontractors.
  • Verify materials received against purchase orders;plan aheadand monitor usage daily to avoid shortages.
  • Monitor andmaintainon-site equipment (e.g. kettle motor oil changes cutter belts); notify the tool room or garage of any broken or defective equipment before returning it.
  • Install repair or replace steep slope and single-ply roofing systems using materials such as modified plastics elastomeric compounds asphaltic compositions slate aluminum wood gravel gypsum and related materials.
  • Cut and fit felt shingles and flashing around walls vents and intersecting roof surfaces using overlap measurements from chalk lines hatchet gauges or shingle lines.
  • Install vapor barriers and insulation layers sealing seams; apply adhesives caulking sealants and coatings.
  • Cover exposed nail heads with roofing cement or caulking to prevent leaks and rust.
  • Repair cracks defects or damage usingappropriate materialsand techniques.
  • Operate vehicles mechanized devices or equipment as needed.
  • Inspect equipment structures and materials; evaluate work for compliance with standards.
  • Oversee overall quality control including checking for water tightness ensuring no debris (e.g. mops) is left on the roof confirming the site is clean and coordinating the punch list and job closeout before the crew leaves.
  • Review job performance with the managerregardingsafety quality and budget upon completion.
  • Prepare andsubmitdaily job reports field progress updates technical questions and timesheets as directed by the manager.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to stand walk and balance forlong periodsof time.
  • Requires use of abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing.
  • Requires seeing details at close range.
  • Requires repetitive movement bending twisting kneeling crouching stooping or crawling.

Work Environment

  • Working in temperatures above 90F or below 32F.
  • Working at heights and in other potentially dangerous conditions.
  • Exposure to extremely bright or inadequate lighting.
  • Exposure to loud distracting or uncomfortable noise levels.
  • Exposure to contaminants hazardous materials and potentially hazardous equipment.
  • Exposure to minor injuries such as burns cuts bites or stings.
  • Performing work where errors may have significant consequences. Strict adherence to all safety policies procedures and regulations isrequired.
