DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES
Steamfitters perform skilled work in the installation maintenance and repairs of pipes and accessories to heating steam hot water and refrigeration systems in County owned and operated facilities. Work is performed under the general direction of a Steamfitter foreman and in accordance with standard trade practices.
Required Tasks
- Troubleshoot test operate and perform preventative maintenance on all heating steam hot water and refrigeration systems.
- Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems supports or related equipment according to blueprints.
- Assemble or secure pipes tubes fittings or related equipment according to specifications by welding brazing cementing soldering or threading joints.
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading.
- Inspect examine or test installed systems or pipe lines using pressure gauge hydrostatic testing observation or other methods.
- Plan pipe system layout installation or repair according to specifications.
- Attach pipes to walls structures or fixtures such as radiators or tanks using brackets clamps tools or welding equipment.
- Modify clean or maintain pipe systems units fittings or related machines or equipment using hand or power tools.
- Select pipe sizes types or related materials such as supports hangers or hydraulic cylinders according to specifications.
- Cut or bore holes in structures such as bulkheads decks walls or mains prior to pipe installation using hand or power tools.
- Install and maintain pneumatic control systems and related accessories.
- Install and maintain hydraulic systems and related piping accessories and controls.
- Shut off steam water or other gases or liquids from pipe sections using valve keys or wrenches.
- Remove and replace worn components.
- Handling and Moving Objects: Cut metal components for installation.
- Drill holes in construction materials.
- Fabricate parts or components.
- Install gauges or controls.
- Install green plumbing or water handling systems.
- Install plumbing or piping.
- Mark reference points on construction materials.
- Weld metal components.
- Inspecting Equipment Structures or Material: Inspect plumbing systems or fixtures.
- Inspect work sites to identify potential environmental or safety hazards.
- Test green technology installations to verify performance.
Educational/ Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Steamfitter apprenticeship program
- Journeyman license
- Two years of post- secondary technical education or a recognized apprenticeship in the area of heating and cooling system design and maintenance.
- At least two years of experience in the areas of heating ventilating and cooling systems maintenance repair and welding.
MULTIPLE SHIFTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS POSITION.
- THIS IS A FIRST SHIFT POSITION. MONDAY-FRIDAY
- 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; OR
- THIS IS A SECOND SHIFT POSITION. MONDAY-FRIDAY
- 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm
