Key Responsibilities
  • Acts as the technical authority on all hydraulic and drainage design and information.
  • Owns manages and updates the applicable Division Manuals Standard Specifications and Drawings.
  • Coordinates with other UDOT divisions for updates to design manuals including making changes to manuals as needed.
  • Provides guidance on bridge scour projects and is part of the bridge scour rating committee.
  • Sets expectations and provides direction for the design of drainage and stormwater assets.
  • Coordinates activities with other discipline groups and staff in the agency to ensure drainage needs are met.
  • Serves as a liaison with other agencies and government entities as needed in all applicable requirements to advocate for a fully functioning system and to protect UDOT assets.
  • Serves as the Department representative on national committees.
  • At times participate in regional and national research projects and assess the feasibility of incorporating proposed research findings.
  • May participate in the selection of consulting firms.
  • Provides training to internal and external personnel related to design and reporting expectations and updates to state or national standards.
  • Participates in site visits when needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Utah with four (4) years of post-licensure experience.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide clear direction.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate team needs activities and tasks.

Preferences
  • Six (6) years of experience in hydraulic design and scour analysis on roadway and structure projects.
  • Proficiency in UDOT project delivery project development permit and application processes and the QC/QA system.
