Join our team as an SBI Specialist and become an integral part of ensuring accuracy and security in our criminal information systems. As an SBI Specialist you will review and authenticate scan biometrics and fingerprint card submissions entering them into our state-of-the-art database for identification matches. The ideal candidate will be responsible for upholding the highest standards of law enforcement and making a lasting impact on public safety.

Individuals applying to be an SBI Specialist will be required to take two pre-tests for Form Blindness. Scores will be considered at the interview. There will be a monitor present at the time these pre-tests are administered and the tests will be given to all applicants at the same time. While successfully passing these tests is not a requirement for employment individuals who pass these pre-tests are more likely to successfully pass the more comprehensive training done during the initial probation.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Reviews live scan biometrics and fingerprint card submissions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Submits fingerprints and biometrics into the tristate automated identification system database to search for possible matches.
  • Validates prints by making a comparison of the characteristics of the fingerprint pattern to make a positive identification of a new record with an existing record.
  • Submits applicable fingerprints of positive matches to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to comply with FBI rules to retain criminal information.
  • Enters and updates criminal history information into the criminal history record information system to record and maintain criminal history records.
  • Evaluates record information determines relevancy and prepares extracts; reviews final product for completeness and accuracy to ensure requestors receive only allowable data.
  • Prepares presents and provides training to internal and external user groups on all aspects under the jurisdiction of SBI to ensure subject matter professionals train users.
  • Verifies sex offender status confirms registration requirements and makes required notifications to comply with the Sex Offender Registry regulations.
  • Examines and determines many classifications of sex offender registration requirements to meet state and federal requirements.
  • Participates as a team member in systems testing and updates and assists with external audits to make recommendations for corrective action.

Minimum qualifications:

A two (2) year combination of complex clerical experience and/or post-secondary education to include at least six (6) months of experience in evaluating and interpreting legal documents.
