Develop preliminary (Class 3) cost estimates for transmission and substation projects based on planning inputs studies and conceptual designs Prepare detailed cost breakdowns by major components such as labor materials ROW and construction support Perform comparative cost evaluations across project alternatives Apply assumptions contingencies and historical cost data to support early-stage project decisions Evaluate transmission project scope including structure types conductor configurations foundation requirements routing constraints right-of-way acquisition and environmental limitations Work closely with internal teams including Transmission Planning Substation Engineering Transmission Engineering Project Managers and Transmission Operations Utilize and maintain estimating tools and spreadsheets based on historical project data and current cost inputs Update unit costs assumptions and methodologies based on actual project feedback and market conditions Contribute to standardization of estimating practices and cost tracking across projects
Required Skills: Experience in transmission substation or utility engineering/estimating Knowledge of high-voltage systems (138 kV and above) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to interpret technical drawings specifications and data. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Knowledge of industry standards and engineering best practices. Strong organizational and time management abilities.
