Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Sr. Phlebotomy Technician in Hackensack NJ. This role is a hospital-based position at HUMC.
Pay range: $25.82 - $38.74 / hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.
Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills training experience education and where applicable certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

The Tech Patient Service Sr assists the supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the department. This position is responsible for the complete and continued workings of the phlebotomy department in the absence of the Supervisor/ Diagnostic Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing electrocardiograms draws intravenous and capillary blood from adults infants and children and all related functions.
Responsibilities
- Makes rounds on nursing care units and outpatient area to draw blood and/or perform EKGs as assigned
- Cleans and re-stocks EKG carts and prepares phlebotomy carts/tray after shift and as needed and returns all carts to G611
- Assists coworkers with draws and EKGs when complete with rounds.
- Draws intravenous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques.
- Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work (stat timed routine) within established departmental policy time frames.
- Draws intravenous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the blood is to be tested.
- Performs and processes all electrocardiograms on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics.
- Demonstrates correct placement of electrodes and all the elements of a 12 lead ECG including but not limited to the recognition of artifacts (electrical muscle etc.)
- Completes clerical functions associated with ECG reports (to include transmission and charging only).
- Signs out and returns all equipment in good repair.
- Reports incidents/issues regarding patients nursing staff or employees timely to Supervisor and/or Manager.
- Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion.
- Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if falls out range to Supervisor and/or Manager.
- Travels and performs phlebotomy duties as needed at Health fairs Skilled Nursing Facilities and PSA testing sites and delivers specimens to laboratory.
- Lifts a minimum of 20 lbs. pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e. age culture language hearing and/or visually impaired etc). This process includes communicating with the patient parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age educational literacy etc.).
- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Centers Organizational Competencies.
Qualifications
Required Work Experience:
- Successful completion of a blood drawing educational program and written phlebotomy examination.
- Completion of EKG educational program with basic knowledge of arrhythmia.
- 3 years of progressive accomplished experience in EKG and phlebotomy.
Preferred Work Experience:
- A.D. preferred
- 1 year of prior experience in EKG or graduate of EKG technical/Medical Assistant training program.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Standing at a minimum of 6 hours per day
Knowledge:
- The position requires the ability to effectively communicate in English.
