Sr. Manager, TRA(c)K-IP

The Intellectual Property team is seeking a Sr. Manager to work in its TRAK-IP department. TRAK-IP is responsible for rights analysis chain of title advice and copyright administration. Reporting to a lawyer in the department the Sr. Manager will focus on remake/sequel rights research analysis and memos but also will perform any/all other aspects of the departments work as needed.

SPEs TRAK-IP Group serves clients across SPEs divisions including production acquisitions and distribution divisions worldwide.

Responsibilities include:

• Advising SPEs various production divisions regarding SPEs rights to produce derivative productions based on its owned properties and exploit associated ancillary collaboration with and under the supervision of the teams attorneys this includes:
  • Researching and analyzing all relevant agreements and other information;
  • Analyzing copyright issues (including chain of title and termination/reversion) and WGA separated rights issues
  • Drafting thorough and clear summaries of the rights restrictions / obligations and legal issues in the form of a legal memo or in emails
• Participating in meetings with relevant business partners
• Managing rights research for remake/sequel analyses including establishing best practices for legal analysts and others on the team for locating and reviewing relevant documents and other information
• Participating in requirements-gathering sessions with SPEs Information Technology department regarding new functionality in SPEs rights applications
• Inputting data and analysis as needed into SPEs rights applications

Qualifications:

• 6 years experience:
  • performing remake/sequel rights research analysis and drafting memos/reports for relevant businesses.
  • reviewing and analyzing entertainment industry contracts
  • learning and understanding copyright issues relevant to chain of title and remake/sequel rights analysis
  • familiarity with WGA Separated Rights
• Experience working with complex databases (including for purposes of research analysis and data entry)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent analytical and issue-spotting skills
• Excellent legal and business judgment
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact collaboratively
• Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
