The position will be based in Boise Idaho or Pleasanton CA
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 50-75%
Main responsibilities:
- Enterprise Strategy Governance & Risk Ownership
- Defines and executes the enterprise Manufacturing FSQA strategy establishing the standards operating model and performance framework governing all manufacturing facilities
- Serves as the enterprise authority for manufacturing food safety and quality setting direction expectations and accountability across all plants
- Owns the enterprise manufacturing food safety and quality risk profile proactively identifying systemic vulnerabilities and implementing mitigation strategies across the network
- Establishes governance mechanisms to ensure consistent execution compliance and performance across all facilities
- Organizational Leadership & Capability Building
- Leads and develops a multi-level FSQA organization across 18 plants and 100 associates (corporate salaried and hourly) building leadership capability succession pipelines and a high-performance culture
- Leads Sr. QA Managers responsible for plant-level FSQA execution ensuring consistent capability accountability and performance of all QA resources across manufacturing
- Establishes clear roles expectations and performance standards for FSQA leadership at all levels
- Systems Regulatory Compliance & Data (via Sr. Manager)
- Leads the Sr. Manager Quality Systems & Regulatory Compliance to design implement and continuously improve enterprise FSQA systems and regulatory programs
- Owns the enterprise regulatory compliance framework across manufacturing ensuring alignment with FDA USDA and state requirements and consistent execution across all plants
- Oversees regulatory inspections audit readiness and agency interactions serving as the primary escalation point for complex or high-risk matters
- Ensures standardization and effectiveness of core FSQA programs including:
- HACCP and Preventive Controls
- Sanitation and environmental monitoring
- Quality management systems
- Traceability and recall readiness
- Oversees enabling capabilities through:
- FSQA BI Manager driving enterprise data strategy analytics and performance visibility
- FSQA Coordinator ensuring system administration data integrity and execution of FSQA platforms (e.g. SafetyChain eBacMap QA Studio)
- Drives enterprise performance through data by establishing KPIs monitoring trends and ensuring execution of corrective and preventive actions
- Business Performance & Operational Integration
- Drives measurable business impact by reducing cost of quality minimizing waste and rework and improving operational efficiency through effective FSQA programs
- Partners with Operations leadership to align FSQA strategy with productivity cost and service objectives
- Embeds FSQA into daily operations to ensure food safety and quality are integrated into core business performance
- Regulatory Leadership & External Representation
- Serves as the primary FSQA manufacturing leader with regulatory agencies representing the organization in inspections audits and critical events
- Leads enterprise response to regulatory actions complex investigations and compliance risks
- Crisis Management & Risk Response
- Leads enterprise recall and crisis management for manufacturing ensuring rapid response regulatory compliance and robust root cause analysis
- Establishes systems and processes to strengthen incident prevention response and recovery
- Capital Innovation & Transformation
- Provides FSQA leadership and approval for capital projects plant design equipment selection and new technologies to ensure food safety and quality requirements are embedded
- Leads enterprise FSQA transformation initiatives including system implementations standardization efforts and continuous improvement programs
- Drives modernization of FSQA capabilities through digital systems analytics and process optimization
- Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partners with Supply Chain Engineering Maintenance Regulatory Commercial and Operations leadership to ensure alignment and execution of FSQA priorities
- Influences enterprise decision-making by translating FSQA risks and insights into business strategies
- Culture & Leadership Presence
- Champions a proactive risk-based food safety and quality culture across all manufacturing operations
- Establishes high standards of accountability ownership and continuous improvement at all levels of the organization
What we are searching for:
- Bachelors degree in food science/technology Microbiology or related field required. Masters degree preferred.
- Experience Level:
- 20 years of food safety & quality experience in manufacturing with strong preference for dairy or high-risk refrigerated/perishable product environments
- 810 years leadership experience managing multi-site FSQA teams
- Extensive experience supporting complex multi-plant operations including standardized processes across diverse facilities
- Deep experience in dairy production (e.g. fluid milk cultured products cheese frozen dairy) strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience with both FDA and USDA regulatory environments including inspection readiness compliance programs and regulatory interactions
We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:
- Deep expertise in HACCP Preventive Controls environmental monitoring sanitation and quality systems
- Strong knowledge of FDA USDA GFSI standards and regulatory compliance requirements
- Proven experience leading multi-site FSQA organizations and driving standardization across plants
- Experience implementing and scaling digital FSQA systems and data platforms
- Strong analytical capability with experience leveraging data to drive decisions and continuous improvement
- Demonstrated success managing recalls crisis events and regulatory interactions
- Excellent project management and process improvement skills
- Strategic Thinking ability to translate complex data and operational realities into enterprise strategy
- Cross-Functional Leadership ability to influence Operations Engineering Supply Chain and leadership teams
- Communication strong executive presence with ability to clearly communicate risks priorities and strategies
- Interpersonal Skills highly collaborative with strong influencing and relationship-building capabilities
- Motivating/Developing Others proven ability to lead through layers develop leaders and build high-performing teams
- Proficiency in FSQA systems and data tools as well as MS Office suite
