Certification in Speech / Language Pathologyby FLDOEand/or licensure in Speech / LanguagePathologyby the state of Florida Department ofHealthProfessional Regulations. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge about assessment and remediation of speech / language of federal state and District guidelines as it relates to implementation of the speech / languageimpaired program. Ability to function as a member of the educational team and a strong desire to work withchildren. Ability to organize and prioritize activities. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and inwriting. Knowledge of techniques and instruments used to diagnose speech / language and understanding of assigned areas (speech / language pathology). REPORTS TO: Principal or designee JOB GOAL: To provide a comprehensive program for students who are referred to the speech / language impaired program SUPERVISES: N/A PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish short-and long-range plans based on student needs and consistent with District and staterequirements. Select materials to support learning objectives and meet the needs of students with diversebackgrounds and special needs. Plan a therapy program for eligible students including implementation and annual review of theIndividual Education Plan (IEP). Participate in school-level child study teams as appropriate. Provide statistical information for program planning such as FTE information severity rating dataend-of-year reports matriculation reports screening results and other relevant data. Schedule students for speech / language impaired program taking into account the total educationalsetting. Order materials and supplies for program implementation as required. Prepare and maintain audit files on all speech / language impaired students. Maintain a positive organized and safe learning environment. 0)Manage time materials and equipment effectively. Establish and maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures. Identify students who have speech and/or language impairments through screening and/ordiagnostic assessments. Determine eligibility for speech / language impaired program. Analyze / interpret results of screening or diagnostic assessment. Conduct a therapy program for eligible students including implementation and annual review ofthe Individual Education Plan (IEP). Use appropriate materials technology and resources to help meet students needs. Use strategies appropriate for working with students from diverse backgrounds. Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively involved in thelearning process. Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention referralor reporting action. Assist the audiologist in conducting hearing screenings and in medical follow-up for studentsreferred. Consult with parents teachers principals and others as appropriate concerning general guidelinesof speech and language development and specifically about students enrolled in the program. Interpret educational policies programs and procedures relative to the speech / language programas required. Provide information and/or inservice to teachers administrators and other school staff. Engage in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills. Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities. Follow attendance punctuality and proper dress rules. Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters. Communicate effectively with staff students parents and other professionals. Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events. Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. Follow all School Board policies rules and regulations. Demonstrate supportfor the School district and its goals and priorities. Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequentlyas needed to move objects. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the Districts approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
