BASIS is seeking qualified candidates for a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant to join our bright passionate team in the Austin Metro Area!
Role Mission:
BASIS Texas Charter Schools works to ensure the success of all students and to address any barriers which may impact students from achieving incredible academic and social outcomes. The Speech Language Pathologist- Assistant under the supervision of a Certified Speech Language Pathologist key members of the Exceptional Student Services team partner with regional leaders a portfolio of campus leaders and teachers to maximize student outcomes.
The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) sets ambitious goals for BASIS student achievement and invests in students and families in accomplishing them. S/he will create a powerful learning environment and deliver purposeful therapy in order to close gaps in communication and academic skills. S/he will provide therapeutic intervention as designated by his/her supervising Speech Language Pathologist in the area of communication disorders track student progress towards goals and join the multidisciplinary team to ensure students academic success. S/he will seek excellence as an educator and a BASIS team member.
The SLPA reports directly to the regional Lead SLP. This role involves some minor travel between assigned campuses.
Location:
This is a full-time on-site position located in an assigned BASIS Texas Region. Preference will be given to candidates who live in the region or who are willing to relocate.
What Youll Do Accountabilities
Essential Duties:
Review IEPs designed by Supervising Speech Language Pathologist and ARD Committee and ensure 100% implementation of extensive knowledge and provide top quality speech therapy services.
Implement the treatment program or the Individual Education Program (IEP) by utilizing therapeutic interventions that are aligned to instruction with the collaboration of parents general educators special educators and interventionists.
Provide appropriate feedback to students as to accuracy of their responses
Use appropriate stimuli cues/prompts with the student to elicit behaviors as defined in the treatment protocol
Maintain on task or redirect off task behavior of students in individual or group treatment consistent with developmental age communication style and disorder
Provide culturally appropriate treatment materials and behavioral reinforcement consistent with the students developmental age culture and disorder
Monitor students therapy and academic progress throughout the year in order to provide the supervising SLP an update on students goals.
Appropriately pace treatment session to ensure maximum student response
Implement designated treatment objectives/goals in specific appropriate sequence
Maintain Therapy Notes Tracking Logs and Billing logs on a daily basis and review with the Manager and Supervising SLP on a weekly basis.
Submit Therapy Logs on a Quarterly Basis to their Manager.
Ensure and monitor students progress in order to complete progress reports on a quarterly basis under the supervision of the Supervising SLP.
Complete documentation by district timelines
Obtain co-signature of supervising SLP on documentation
Use professional terminology correctly in communication with supervising SLP
Uphold ethical behavior as per State Guidelines
Maintain client records in accordance with confidentiality regulations/laws as prescribed by supervising SLP
Discuss confidential student information only at the direction of supervising SLP
Identify self as an SLP-Assistant in all written and oral communication with the student family caregivers and staff
Demonstrate ability to explain to supervising SLP the scope of information that should be discussed with the student family caregivers and professionals.
Actively participate in interaction with supervising SLP demonstrating use of supervisors feedback
Follow treatment protocol as developed and prescribed by supervising SLP
Restate information/concerns to supervising SLP as expressed by student family and caregivers as appropriate
Direct student/family and caregivers to supervisor for IEP information
What You Bring Competencies
Required experience:
Valid Drivers License
Bachelors Degree in Communication Disorders from an accredited college or university.
Valid Texas License as a Speech Language Pathologist- Assistant granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
Must be able to climb ladders or scaffolding or climb and work in overhead areas
Must be able to work in a confined space or to crawl or move about on hands and knees.
Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 20 pounds (regularly/occasionally)
Physical ability to work around small children including sitting standing running and climbing stairs.
Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 40 pounds in case of emergency.
Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor environments including in times of excessive heat or cold
