Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Elementary Science Curriculum Specialist works in collaboration with other elementary core content specialist under the direction of the Director of Elementary Curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Curriculum writing experience
  • Professional development design and presentation experience
  • Five years job related experience

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Leadership experience at the campus level and/or district level
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Five years classroom experience
  • Experience with multiple grade levels
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Expertise in secondary science curriculum instruction and assessment
  • Exceptional knowledge of effective teaching strategies and classroom environments
  • Evidence of success in academically advancing gifted and talented students English Language Learners and students with special needs in an inclusive environment
  • Excellent organization communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in the area of planning and presenting professional learning
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate district functions
  • Understanding of the instructional needs of 21st century learners
  • Works effectively with and lead adult learners
  • Strong technology skills including technology integration
  • Ability to multi-task

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with science directors to develop review and modify secondary science curriculum and assessments.
  • Analyzes data and identifies the appropriate instructional response to data trends.
  • Remain current on educational research and instructional best practices and apply research and data to daily work.
  • Attends weekend and evening events associated with science programs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility standing prolonged sitting some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of instructional programs; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Required to work extended hours as needed.
