Job Summary

Job Summary

Serves as liaison between Exceptional Education and designated schools to implement procedures for identification and placement of students in need of special education and related services. Assists with planning and implementation of Multidisciplinary Team recommendations quality control required data gathering and training activities.

Essential Functions

1. Participates in Multidisciplinary Team for referral eligibility Individual Education Plans and placement activities according to district state and federal guidelines.
2. Conducts placement activities for students identified as needing specialized services within low incidence classroom settings or schools.
3. Assists school/district personnel in interpretation of State Board of Education Rules for identification of students eligible for special education and related services interpretation of evaluation data and identification of alternative strategies and programs for students.
4. Maintains communication with parents and appropriate school and district staff in facilitating admissions and placement of exceptional students.
5. Maintains and submits records and data according to designated timelines and district procedures.
6. Assists in preparation of required district state federal documents and projects.
7. Maintains communication with other staff to facilitate appropriate follow-through regarding interventions involving Team activity.
8. Assists in organization and implementation of summer session Multidisciplinary Team and admissions planning activities.
9. Aids in development of training and information products. Provides technical assistance and in-service training to school personnel on appropriate implementation of procedures for identification and placement of exceptional students.

10. Provides technical assistance to other team members on appropriate implementation of procedures for identification and placement of exceptional students.
11. Maintains communication with the Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System and community agencies to facilitate follow-through with specific cases.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Masters degree preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years successful experience in working with special needs students. Teaching experience preferred.

Certifications & Licenses: Certification in Exceptional Student Education Psychology Counseling or other field related to Exceptional Student Education.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Working knowledge of students with special needs
  • Working knowledge of DCPS exceptional student education policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of federal state and district legislation policies and standards regarding ESE
  • Knowledge of data management information systems
  • Strong oral written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong word processing spreadsheet and presentation software skills
  • Strong presentation development and delivery skills
  • Ability to plan and implement Multidisciplinary Team recommendations
  • Ability to maintain communication with parents and appropriate school and district staff in facilitating referral eligibility and reevaluation of students with exceptional needs
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to support schools in exceptional education eligibility determinations
  • Ability to prepare reports
