Special Services Coordinator

Terms: 200-Day Contract At-Will
Reports to: Special Services Director / Assistant Director
Starting Salary Range:$67500 - $84000
Are you an experienced Special Education professional looking to step into leadership & continue to work with like minded educators and students RSU 9 is seeking a collaborative systems-minded leader to support our upper elementary and secondary buildings. This role is more than just paperworkyou will act as a coach facilitator and a supportive liaisondistrict wide. The right person will be looking to grow professionaling & a model of best practice for fellow Special Educators.
Key Responsibilities:
- IEP Leadership: Chair and facilitate IEP team meetings with administrative authority ensuring procedural compliance and high-quality Written Notices.
- Case Management: Oversee out-of-district/unit placements and specialized programs.
- Staff Coaching: Provide instructional technical assistance and professional development to special education teaching staff.
- Seamless Transitions: Coordinate cross-building and post-secondary transition pipelines (Grades 2 5 8 12 and Age 22 adult services).
- Strategic Collaboration: Facilitate Child Find procedures with school psychologists consult on Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) best practices and represent Special Education at building-level BARR meetings.
- Supervision: Supervise and evaluate educational technicians within Day Treatment and Adaptive Skills programming.
Qualifications:
- Valid State of Maine Special Education Certification (030 035 or 282).
- Bachelors degree required (Masters in Special Education preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of successful special education teaching experience.
- Strong communication skills and a deep working knowledge of IDEA regulations.
