Special Education Teacher

Location:Yreka CA
Duration: 44-Week Contract (2026-2027 School Year)

We are seeking a dedicated and student-focused Special Education Teacher to join a school district serving Yreka and Mt. Shasta California for the 2026-2027 school year. This position will support an Elementary Special Day Class (SDC) in a self-contained classroom setting working with a small caseload of approximately 10 students.

The ideal candidate will provide individualized instruction foster academic and social-emotional growth and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. The district provides strong classroom support including three paraprofessionals assigned to the program.

• Provide specialized instruction to elementary students in a self-contained Special Day Class (SDC).
• Develop implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support student success.
• Adapt and modify curriculum instructional strategies and classroom materials to meet diverse learning needs.
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals therapists psychologists administrators and families to support student development.
• Implement positive behavior intervention strategies and maintain a structured supportive classroom environment.
• Conduct educational assessments and collect data to monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
• Prepare progress reports and participate in IEP meetings and related documentation.
• Utilize assistive technology and differentiated teaching methods to enhance student engagement and achievement.
• Maintain compliance with California education regulations IDEA requirements and district policies.
• Foster a safe inclusive and positive learning environment that supports academic behavioral and social-emotional growth.

• Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential or eligibility to obtain one.
• Experience working with students with special needs in a Special Day Class (SDC) or similar setting preferred.
• Knowledge of IEP development implementation and compliance requirements.
• Strong classroom management and behavior intervention skills.
• Excellent communication collaboration and organizational abilities.
• Ability to effectively lead and coordinate classroom support staff.

• Experience working with elementary-aged students in a self-contained classroom environment.
• Familiarity with evidence-based instructional practices and positive behavioral support strategies.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including Speech-Language Pathologists Occupational Therapists and School Psychologists.
