Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Grand Ledge High School as a Special Education ParaEducator. This full-time position is designed for someone who is passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education teachers to provide assistance in the classroom and help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities
- Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provide direct support to students in academic social and behavioral areas ensuring they have access to the curriculum.
- Help facilitate small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Monitor and document student progress behavior and engagement reporting any concerns to the teacher.
- Support students during transitions between classes lunchtime and other school activities to promote social integration.
- Collaborate with teachers therapists and other staff members to develop and adapt instructional materials and strategies.
- Assist with the implementation of behavioral interventions and strategies to promote positive behavior and social skills.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Participate in staff meetings professional development and training sessions as required.
- Uphold confidentiality and adhere to all school policies and procedures regarding student information and safety.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associates degree or higher in education special education or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities or in a special education setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students staff and families.
- Patience empathy and a genuine desire to support students in their learning and development.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions from teachers and specialists.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in using educational technology and software.
- Knowledge of special education laws regulations and best practices is a plus.
- Must pass background checks and meet any additional state or district requirements for employment in a school setting.
