Required Degree:

PhD in Hispanic/Spanish literature cultural studies Hispanic linguistics foreign language education applied linguistics Second Language Acquisition or similar emphasis. The required degree must be completed prior to the start date.

Experience:Experience teaching Spanish courses at the university level is required. Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English is also required.

Duties/Expectations:This professional-track position has a course-load of 4-3-2 (27 credit-hours per year). While teaching faculty do not have a research/publication expectation the successful candidate is expected to stay current in the field through various professional development activities and serve on departmental college and university committees. Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

1. Teaching (70%)

  • Teach nine courses per year (27 credit hours). These include a variety of courses at the undergraduate level including Third-Year Spanish Reading Grammar and Culture Third-Year Spanish Composition and/or other courses depending on expertise.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students.

2. Professional Assignment (10%)

  • The faculty members professional activities should all complement their primary role as teaching faculty. It is anticipated that they will participate in academic conferences and workshops (at BYU and at other venues) sharing and learning best practices in teaching Spanish language literature and culture.

3. Citizenship (20%)

  • Teaching faculty lend service to the college university and profession at large as well as contribute actively to the life of the department.
  • Faculty are expected to work in a respectful and collegial manner with all colleagues including department faculty and staff adjunct faculty and student instructors.
