A Software Engineer II job description involves contributing to all phases of the software development lifecycle from design and development to testing and deployment with a focus on building scalable reliable and user-friendly software solutions. Key responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams improving existing systems mentoring junior engineers participating in code reviews and solving complex technical problems to drive business outcomes and technical innovation.

Typical Responsibilities

• Design and Development: Design develop and implement new software features and applications translating business requirements into functional code.
• Collaboration: Work with product managers designers and other engineers in a team environment participating in code reviews and adhering to best practices.
• Maintenance and Optimization: Troubleshoot debug and optimize existing software systems to ensure performance reliability and security.
• Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical leadership to junior engineers helping them grow their skills.
• Process Improvement: Contribute to and improve standard engineering processes including testing monitoring and automated workflows.
• Innovation: Stay updated on new technologies and apply them to solve complex problems and drive innovation in software products.

Typical Environment:

• A Level II engineer often works independently with general supervision.
• Problems faced are difficult but typically not complex.
• Takes ownership of project deliverables.
• Trusted to make decisions that impact a project.
• Seeks to understand the why of the work.
• Accurately estimates complexity of tasks.

Ideally you have:

• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in relevant programming languages frameworks and databases including experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Azure) and microservices architecture.
• Software Development Lifecycle: Experience with all phases of the SDLC from requirements gathering and design to testing deployment and ongoing maintenance.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot complex issues and implement effective solutions.
• Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Agile & Scrum: Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience participating in Scrum ceremonies.

Experience:

Typically requires a few years of professional software development experience often with a bachelors degree in a related field.
