Primary Function:
The Civil Designer will perform routine design and drafting assignments related to land development and site civil work for substation and energy infrastructure projects requiring knowledge and skill in basic design techniques and procedures under close supervision.The position will be based in our The Woodlands TXoffice located at 1575 Sawdust Rd Suite 300 The Woodlands TX 77380and will report to Dashiells Supervising Engineer.
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
- Produce new site civil drawings including site layout grading drainage and erosion control plans from examples of previous projects and/or standards with some supervision.
- Research information in catalogues specifications corporate standards local regulations and other reference materials applicable to land development and site civil design.
- Perform basic calculations related to earthwork volumes drainage areas grading slopes and stormwater runoff.
- Learn and properly use the Dashiell document management system.
- Learn and apply corporate standard drafting and design practices for land development and site civil work.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work.
- Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.
- Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.
- Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.
- By producing accurate site civil drawings you will enable efficient substation and infrastructure construction and reduce costly field conflicts.
- By developing your land development and site civil drafting skills you will strengthen the teams capacity to deliver quality design packages on time.
- By taking ownership of drawing quality and accuracy you will contribute to Dashiells reputation for delivering reliable well-coordinated engineering packages.
- Associates Degree in Drafting & Design Civil Technology or related field is required; equivalent professional experience of 2 or more years may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Drafting experience with a background in land development site civil or related civil design disciplines is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or AutoCAD 2010 or newer is required.
- Knowledge of site civil drafting including grading drainage erosion and sediment control and utility layout.
- Mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometry.
- Proficiency in word processing spreadsheet and email software.
- Basic oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Valid drivers license required; must maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
Preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D Microstation or other civil design platforms.
- Familiarity with substation site layout or energy infrastructure projects.
- Basic knowledge of grading ordinances stormwater requirements or land disturbance permitting.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods during office-based work.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during field visits.
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain gravel and graded surfaces.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to travel to project sites as required.
Environmental Conditions
- Combination of climate-controlled office work and outdoor construction environments.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat cold wind and rain.
- Exposure to noise dust and industrial conditions during site visits.
Driving & Safety-Sensitive Positions
- This position requires a valid drivers license and compliance with Dashiells motor vehicle policies. Incumbents must maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
