Job Summary

Shot Peen Operators safely set up and operate shot peening equipment to process aerospace components in accordance with applicable technique sheets work instructions customer specifications and quality requirements. They load and unload parts establish and monitor process parameters perform Almen strip testing complete required documentation and support equipment testing and maintenance in accordance with Nadcap customer and company role is identified as requiring ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance; therefore qualified candidates must meet the definition of a U.S. Person (per EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15):An individual who is granted U.S. citizenship orAn individual who is granted U.S. permanent residence (i.e. a Green Card holder) orAn individual who is granted status as a protected personEssential FunctionsTo accomplish this job an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Sets up and operates shot peening equipment to process aerospace components in accordance with applicable technique sheets work instructions customer specifications and quality requirements Identifies applicable part families and uses required documentation to determine the proper machine nozzle fixture and process settings Sets and adjusts blast times nozzle positions fixture settings air pressure and other applicable equipment parameters Performs required test runs using Almen strips and accurately measures results using an Almen gauge to verify shot peening intensity and process compliance Monitors equipment and process parameters throughout operations to ensure established requirements are maintained Loads unloads positions and secures parts and fixtures using appropriate handling and lifting techniques Coordinates with Production Control Processing personnel and other applicable departments to support inventory and production flow Accurately completes required process logs equipment records test results and other documentation Performs required equipment checks testing and routine maintenance activities in accordance with applicable Nadcap customer and company requirements Identifies and communicates equipment concerns process deviations or other conditions that may affect product quality or production Follows established procedures for handling parts or processes that do not meet applicable requirements Reads and follows safety rules operating and maintenance instructions procedure manuals work instructions and other applicable documentation Maintains a clean organized and safe work area Follows all applicable safety procedures properly uses required personal protective equipment and performs work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner Completes other duties as required Regular attendance on-site at the workplace is requiredWork Experience One to two years of related manufacturing processing or shot peening experience is preferred Aerospace or precision manufacturing experience is preferredEducation High school diploma or GED requiredOther Required Skills and Abilities Ability to learn and follow shot peening processes procedures and applicable customer requirements Ability to read and understand technique sheets work instructions operating procedures safety requirements and other technical documentation Ability to properly set up and operate shot peening equipment and maintain required machine and process parameters Ability to perform Almen strip testing and accurately use an Almen gauge Ability to complete required training testing and qualification requirements applicable to the position and Nadcap processes Strong attention to detail and ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly Ability to recognize and communicate equipment processing or quality concerns Ability to organize work and coordinate with applicable personnel to maintain production and inventory flow Demonstrated reliability accountability and ability to follow established procedures Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and ability to identify conditions that may affect employee or product safety Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing Ability to complete routine reports processing records and other required documentation Ability to work effectively using appropriate material-handling equipment and/or peer assistance Push or pull parts carts fixtures or equipment as required using appropriate material-handling equipment and/or peer assistance for heavier loads Possess the near distance peripheral and depth perception necessary to safely operate equipment inspect components read gauges and perform required testing Hear and recognize equipment sounds that may indicate machine or processing concerns Work around odors associated with manufacturing and processing operations Wear required personal protective equipmentWorking ConditionsWork is primarily performed in a manufacturing shop and processing environment where working conditions may vary. The employee may be exposed to: Shot peening and other manufacturing or processing equipment and associated shop hazards Noise from machinery compressed air and manufacturing operations Dust particulate matter mist fumes vapors or chemicals associated with manufacturing and processing operations Heat cold and varying temperatures within manufacturing and processing areas Moving equipment parts fixtures and other materials Hazardous equipment including forklifts hand tools cranes or other lifting devices and other equipment used in a manufacturing environmentThe use of required PPE including eye protection hand protection hearing protection safety footwear and other protective equipment appropriate to the processing activity is required.
