Shelter Manager Florida
Job Summary
These are seasonal positions and if activated will likely require travel on short notice generally lasting from several days to a few weeks and possibly 30 days or more depending on the disaster response needs. Ideal candidates for these missions will be available to deploy within 24 to 72 hours of notification.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily 24/7 operations of emergency shelter sites ensuring safe and effective service delivery.
- Supervise shelter staff and coordinate shift schedules to maintain consistent coverage and care.
- Ensure residents have timely access to meals laundry services hygiene items and medical or case management support.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate updates assignments and policy changes.
- Maintain smooth shift transitions and continuity of shelter operations across all staffing teams.
- Provide direct coverage as needed to fill staffing gaps or address urgent needs.
- Remain on call 24/7 to respond to emergencies or operational issues.
- Manage and support one or more direct reports including onboarding training and task assignment.
- Exercise discretion and sound judgment in managing day-to-day operations and resident concerns.
- Track project performance deliverables and quality assurance using internal systems and tools.
- Ensure compliance with client requirements and internal protocols.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated leadership and operational management experience.
- Strong organizational time-management and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel PowerPoint Word and Outlook.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and community partners.
- Must be able to remain calm and make decisions under pressure.
- Flexible availability to support 24/7/365 shelter operations.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation is required.
