As the Service Engineer II Screening Automation you are part of a dynamic team that supports the Guardant Health Shield Screening program at our Palo Alto site. This role will primarily work on a variety of laboratory instruments including Automated Plasma Isolation (API) and Library Preparation track systems liquid handlers & NGS sequencers. You will be responsible for equipment installations maintenance & repairs must be detail oriented have experience working in a regulated environment (CLIA CAP and FDA desirable) possess strong documentation skills (GDP) and strong communication skills both written and verbal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory instrument installations maintenance repairs and qualifications (IOPQ) to ensure the highest level of instrument reliability and up-time.
  • Monitor instrument metrics and advocate serviceability within cross-functional teams.
  • Responsible for instrument up-time and ensuring that service documentation meets Guardant Heaths Quality Management system.
  • Evaluate equipment performance trends to propose long-term solutions as needed.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and disseminate information by developing SOPs checklists and service bulletins.
  • Contribute to the management of the maintenance and calibration system.
  • Help end-users troubleshoot issues.
  • Provide service and support during normal business hours as well as after hours and over weekends (as needed).
  • Effectively communicate with third party service providers.

Qualifications

  • A BS degree in an engineering or scientific discipline with 2-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting Hamilton Liquid Handlers Illumina Sequencers Agilent Bravo platform/heads Biotek MultiFlos Precise robotic arm centrifuges and other DNA quantification instruments are required.
  • Experience authoring and executing PM IQ OQ repair and other service-related documentation.
  • Experience developing and leading training programs to provide knowledge-transfer to other engineers and lab personnel.
  • Experience working within a CLIA and GMP regulated environment.
  • Experience standardizing processes for scalability and sustainability.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal and external colleagues as well as customers from diverse scientific engineering operational and regulatory disciplines.
  • Liquid Handler programming experience is a plus.
  • Robotics experience is a plus.
  • Field service engineering experience is desirable.
  • Ability to take part in an on-call rotation with after-hours and weekend responses (as needed).
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong working relationships
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Drive for continuous improvement.
  • Experience with MS Office.

Hybrid Work Model: This section is applicable to onsite employees who are eligible for hybrid work location as specified by management and related policies. Guardant has defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays Tuesdays and Thursdays. The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. This range does not include benefits or if applicable bonus commission or equity. Each candidates compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including but not limited to geography experience education job-related skills job duties and business need. Primary Location: Palo Alto CA Primary Location Base Pay Range: $108000 - $148500 Other US Location(s) Base Pay Range: $91800 - $126225 If the role is performed in Colorado the pay range for this job is: $97200 - $133650
